The following are the Connecticut Manufacturers’ Collaborative (CMC) Meeting Minutes from July 13, 2026

Organizational Updates

Chris Davis announced that Paul Amarone is no longer with CBIA and that the organization is currently searching for a new policy director. A.J. Bellagamba was also introduced as the new administrative support contact for CMC meetings.

Connecticut Economic and Manufacturing Update

Kirti Patel of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development reported that U.S. GDP grew by 2.1% during the first quarter of 2026, while Connecticut’s economy grew by 1.8%. This represented the second-highest growth rate in New England, behind Massachusetts at 2.4%.

Connecticut sectors experiencing growth included information, durable goods manufacturing, professional, scientific and technical services, and government. Retail, education, wholesale and finance experienced declines during the same period.

Manufacturing Innovation Fund

DECD reviewed funding priorities for the Manufacturing Innovation Fund and highlighted several initiatives. These include the Connecticut Aerospace and Defense Conference, with future events planned for 2027 and 2029, and a new College Career Pathways Training in Manufacturing program launching at Derby High School.

DECD also discussed the Connecticut Defense Cybersecurity Adoption Program, known as CT-DCAP. A new advisory council will support the program by providing industry expertise and helping identify potential funding opportunities.

Upcoming Manufacturing Forum

The Connecticut Manufacturing Innovation Forum will take place on September 1, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Connecticut Convention Center. DECD is also expected to issue a press release in mid-August with additional information about the Manufacturing Innovation Fund.

Workforce Development

During the workforce development discussion, Tony Benoit asked about available support for machining certification programs. DECD confirmed that the Manufacturing Innovation Fund will help support these certifications. Participants also emphasized the importance of increasing awareness of these opportunities throughout Connecticut’s manufacturing community.

Legislative and Industry Updates

Eric Gjede thanked members for helping promote the manufacturer roundtable held in Bristol on July 14. He also encouraged manufacturing stakeholders to begin developing priorities and ideas for the next legislative agenda.

Manufacturers were reminded that several new laws affecting the industry will take effect on October 1, 2026. Companies are encouraged to review the changes carefully and update their employee handbooks and internal policies as necessary.

The meeting focused on the strength of Connecticut’s manufacturing economy, state investment through the Manufacturing Innovation Fund, workforce training and certification, cybersecurity and defense initiatives, and preparation for upcoming legislative and regulatory changes.
